ABEOKUTA — Grief and heartfelt tributes have continued to pour in following the death of Nigerian businessman and community leader, Alhaji Oyesiku Abdulsemiu Amosun, popularly known as Sheko, as one of his adopted sons, Mr Abioro Damilare Athande, has described the deceased as a mentor, benefactor, and father figure whose life positively shaped his destiny.

Athande, in an emotional condolence message, said the late Amosun played a significant role in his personal and spiritual development, describing his passing as a painful loss not only to his immediate family but to everyone who benefited from his generosity and guidance.

“While I was reflecting on your death at a time when I needed your guidance most in pursuing my ambitions, I came to the realisation that you had fulfilled your purpose on earth. No one can question God’s decision because He knows the appointed time for everyone,” he said.

Alhaji Oyesiku Amosun, the younger brother of former Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026, at the age of 65. His Janazah (Islamic burial) was held the following day at the family residence in Ita-Iyalode, Owu, Abeokuta.

The deceased was widely respected as a quiet, thoughtful personality and a devoted Muslim known for his tolerance, humility, and commitment to community development. During his lifetime, he also served in various capacities in Ogun State, including as a Senior Special Assistant on Environment.

Athande recalled that despite their religious differences, the late Amosun never discriminated against him for being a Christian, noting that his guardian instead encouraged peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.

“He was born a Muslim but never discriminated against any religion. He allowed me to continue my Christian faith while living under his roof. That alone shows the kind of man he was — peaceful, accommodating, and large-hearted,” Athande added.

According to him, the deceased and his wife, Mrs Remilekun Amosun (née Babalola), took him in during his secondary school days at Anglican High School, Ibara, Abeokuta, where they provided parental care, moral instruction, and mentorship that helped shape his future.

“I cannot forget his impact on my life. He supported me morally, financially, and materially and promised to stand by my ambitions. Today, I am who I am because God used him as an instrument to help me,” he said.

He further described the late Amosun as “Big Daddy,” a name affectionately used by many who experienced his kindness.

“We love you, but God loves you more. Continue to rest in the Lord Almighty until we meet to part no more,” he said.

Born into the Amosun family of Totoro, Ita-Iyalode in Owu, Abeokuta, the late Sheko was regarded as a respected son of the Owu Kingdom and a committed family man. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family members.

Family sources described him as a man who valued peace, family unity, and mentorship, adding that his legacy would continue through the many lives he touched.

Athande prayed for the repose of his soul and strength for the family he left behind.

“Myself and the family you left behind will continue to miss you, Daddy. It is my prayer that God grants you eternal rest in the bosom of your Creator,” he said.

The late Amosun is survived by his wife, Mrs Remilekun Oluranti Amosun, and his children, including Omowunmi Amosun, Omojola Amosun, Omorinla Amosun and late Only SON Omotayo Amosun

As tributes continue to pour in, friends and associates say his life remains a testament to humility, religious tolerance, and selfless service to humanity.
