The outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly primaries in Ward G2, Surulere 1, Lagos State, has once again highlighted the strong political structure and influence of key party stakeholders in the area, particularly within the camp associated with former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.

In the ward results, incumbent lawmaker Desmond Elliot polled 10 votes, while his challenger, Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, recorded a commanding 1,986 votes.

The Merit Newspaper reports that the overwhelming margin has further reinforced the dominance of the APC structure in Surulere, particularly in Ward G2, where political observers say loyalty networks and grassroots mobilisation remain decisive in determining electoral outcomes.

Although Gbajabiamila does not hold executive authority over Lagos State or Surulere Local Government, he is widely regarded as a major political influence within the area, with strong roots in the constituency that continue to shape internal party dynamics.

The result is expected to intensify discussions within the Lagos APC ahead of future elections, as stakeholders assess the implications of the wide-margin victory in Ward G2.
