President assures Catholic bishops of progress on security and economy, pledges stronger partnership with religious leaders.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Catholic bishops in Nigeria that his administration is making steady progress in restoring security and stabilising the country’s economy, expressing confidence that the ongoing reforms will lay the foundation for lasting peace and prosperity.
The President gave the assurance during a meeting with Catholic leaders, where he reaffirmed his government’s commitment to working closely with religious organisations to promote national unity, peace and development.
Tinubu acknowledged that Nigeria continues to face serious economic and security challenges but maintained that his administration had taken difficult yet necessary decisions aimed at repositioning the country for sustainable growth.

According to the President, the government’s economic reforms are beginning to yield positive results, while intensified security operations are gradually weakening criminal and terrorist groups threatening lives and property in different parts of the country.
He stressed that no meaningful national development could take place without peace and security, adding that his administration would continue investing in intelligence gathering, security operations and community engagement to protect Nigerians.
Tinubu also underscored the importance of interfaith dialogue, describing cooperation among religious leaders as one of the most effective ways to foster peaceful coexistence and strengthen national unity.
He praised the Catholic Church for its longstanding contributions to education, healthcare, humanitarian services and nation-building, noting that government values the Church’s role in promoting moral values and social development.
The President assured the bishops that his administration would continue to engage religious organisations as strategic partners in addressing national challenges and advancing policies that improve the welfare of Nigerians.
The meeting comes at a time when concerns over insecurity, the rising cost of living and economic reforms remain dominant issues across the country. Recent attacks in parts of northern Nigeria have renewed calls for stronger security measures, while many citizens continue to grapple with inflation and high living costs.
Despite these challenges, Tinubu expressed optimism that the sacrifices associated with the ongoing reforms would eventually translate into improved living standards, increased investments, job creation and stronger economic growth.
The President reiterated that Nigeria’s diversity remains one of its greatest strengths and urged religious leaders to continue preaching peace, tolerance and national cohesion.

He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting every Nigerian regardless of religion or ethnicity, insisting that unity remains essential to achieving lasting stability and national progress.
The Merit Newspaper reports that the political analysts believe the President’s engagement with religious leaders reflects the government’s effort to strengthen dialogue with key stakeholders amid continuing security and economic challenges. They note that faith-based organisations remain influential partners in promoting peace, conflict resolution and humanitarian interventions across Nigeria.
With the administration pushing ahead with its reform agenda, Tinubu expressed confidence that Nigeria is moving in the right direction and called on citizens to remain patient and supportive as the government continues implementing policies aimed at securing a more prosperous future for all.
