Asari-Dokubo

Port Harcourt, March 21, 2025

Former Niger Delta militant leader, Mujahid Asari Dokubo, has withdrawn his support for Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara. In a viral video on March 20, 2025, Asari Dokubo told his followers and the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) that Fubara is not an Ijaw man and must honor his political agreement with former Governor Nyesom Wike.

“Agreement is an agreement,” he said, insisting that Fubara must fulfill his commitments.

This marks a sharp reversal from Asari Dokubo’s earlier stance. Previously, he had strongly opposed any move to impeach Governor Fubara, warning President Bola Tinubu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike against such actions. He had also aligned with the IYC in defending Fubara’s position, vowing to resist any attempt to remove him.

The Ijaw Youth Council has similarly cautioned against Fubara’s removal, urging political leaders to maintain peace in the state. However, Asari Dokubo’s sudden withdrawal of support adds a new twist to Rivers State’s political crisis.

The situation remains tense as political stakeholders assess the impact of his latest declaration.
