As Ogun State prepares to host the 22nd edition of the National Sports Festival, tagged Gateway Games Ogun 2024, the All Youth Reoriented Initiative of Nigeria (AYRION) has donated branded T-shirts, face caps, and campaign banners to the Ogun State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to support anti-drug advocacy during the games.

Ogun State NDLEA Commander, CN Tijani Rabe and Barrister Izunya Dale Isaac

The donation, presented on Friday, May 16, at the NDLEA State Command in Abeokuta, aims to boost awareness and sensitization campaigns against drug abuse, particularly among the thousands of young athletes participating in the multi-sport event scheduled to run from May 18 to May 30 across Abeokuta, Sagamu, Ikenne, and Remo.

Receiving the items, Ogun State NDLEA Commander, CN Tijani Rabe, commended AYRION for its timely support and commitment to youth development through anti-drug advocacy.

“This generous donation by AYRION is not only symbolic but strategic,” CN Rabe said. “The National Sports Festival brings together thousands of youths from across the country, and this is a critical opportunity to reinforce the message of drug-free sports and responsible living. We appreciate AYRION for its continuous partnership in this national effort.”

Although AYRION President, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, was unavoidably absent, he was represented by the NGO’s Legal Adviser and Trustee, Barrister Izunya Dale Isaac, who presented the materials on behalf of the organization.

In a goodwill message delivered through his representative, Ambassador Oguntoyinbo reaffirmed the NGO’s mission to support Nigerian youths in the fight against drug abuse, particularly during events that bring them together in large numbers.

“Our commitment remains firm: to build a future where Nigerian youths say no to drugs and yes to discipline, ambition, and excellence,” Ambassador Oguntoyinbo said. “We are glad to be part of this historic festival and to work hand-in-hand with the NDLEA to make it a celebration of clean sportsmanship and healthy living.”

The NDLEA Commander expressed gratitude and took photographs with the AYRION executive members in a warm and ceremonial atmosphere.

The Gateway Games Ogun 2024 promises to be one of the most memorable editions in the 52-year history of the National Sports Festival, which was first held in 1973. The Ogun State Government has vowed to deliver an event marked by unity, excellence, and cultural celebration.

As excitement builds ahead of the official opening ceremony on Sunday, May 18, athletes from Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are already arriving in the host cities. For the second time in its history, Ogun State is set to host what has become Nigeria’s version of the Olympics—a festival of youth, sports, and national pride.
