The Nigerian music space is buzzing with controversy as a staunch fan of Davido, popularly known online as Geh Geh, has publicly called on the award-winning Afrobeats star to quit music — a statement that has since ignited a flurry of reactions across social media platforms.

In a video currently trending online and obtained by The Merit Newspaper, Geh Geh expressed deep disappointment after listening to Davido’s latest body of work, claiming it fell short of expectations and musical standards.

“I’m giving Davido 24 hours to quit music,” Geh Geh declared. “After listening to the entire album, I came to the conclusion that music is not his calling. I love Davido, but the truth must be told.”

Geh Geh was referring to Davido’s recently released fifth studio album, 5ive, which dropped on April 18, 2025. The album features 17 tracks and boasts guest appearances from notable artists such as YG Marley, Odumodublvck, and Chike. Released under Davido Music Worldwide in collaboration with Columbia Records and Sony Music Entertainment, 5ive was highly anticipated by fans and critics alike.

However, Geh Geh appears unimpressed. He advised the superstar to redirect his resources to support rising talents who have what it takes to dominate the industry but lack financial backing.

“Instead of wasting your money on songs that don’t move people, it would be better if you invest in upcoming artistes,” he said. “There are many versatile musicians out there who don’t have the funds to promote themselves. Help them.”

Geh Geh didn’t stop there. He urged other music lovers to stream the new album and judge for themselves, insisting his views were not born out of hatred but constructive criticism.

“Go and listen to the album yourself. If you’re being honest, you’ll know I’m not lying. This is not hate. I’ve been a fan of Davido for years, but this album is just not it.”

While reactions continue to trail the outspoken fan’s statement, some netizens have commended his boldness, while others believe his remarks are unnecessarily harsh and disrespectful to the singer’s legacy and global achievements.

Davido, who has remained one of Nigeria’s top-tier artistes with numerous international accolades to his name, is yet to respond to the comments made by Geh Geh. Fans are curious whether the Timeless crooner — known for sometimes addressing critics through lyrics or witty posts — will remain silent or offer a comeback.

As the online drama unfolds, many await either a clapback or a subtle reaction from Davido.

Stay tuned as The Merit Newspaper continues to monitor the developing story.
