Mystical or Marketing? When ‘Sudeen Doors’ Met ‘Seven Doors’ in Abeokuta

Today, Monday, December 16, 2024, in the bustling city of Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, my wandering eyes stumbled upon a unique sight—a carpenter’s shop proudly bearing the name Sudeen Doors. At first glance, I thought it was just another roadside shop. But as a lover of movies, especially Nollywood hits, the name struck a chord with me. Why? Because Femi Adebayo Salami’s latest blockbuster on Netflix is titled Seven Doors.

Imagine my surprise. Was this a clever marketing strategy by the carpenter, or was it pure coincidence? Whatever the case, the striking phonetic similarity between Sudeen Doors and Seven Doors sparked a wild thought: “What if this carpenter is secretly collaborating with Femi Adebayo to design the seven mystical doors in the movie?”

Picture this—Femi Adebayo walks into Sudeen Doors one fateful afternoon. He leans over the counter and whispers to the carpenter:
“Egbon, I need seven strong doors. Not just any doors—doors that can withstand mystical forces, ancestral secrets, and curious Netflix viewers. Can you deliver?”

The carpenter, without missing a beat, dusts off his measuring tape and replies:
“Seven doors ke? Bros, I no dey do ordinary doors o. My own na Sudeen Doors. Mystical things are my specialty.”

And just like that, the partnership was born—or so my comical imagination insists.

On a serious note, Abeokuta never ceases to amaze me. From its rich cultural heritage to its creative entrepreneurs, this city is full of surprises. Whether you’re watching Seven Doors on Netflix or walking past Sudeen Doors in Abeokuta, one thing is clear: Nigerians have a unique way with names and endless creativity.

So, the next time you see a carpenter’s shop with a name that reminds you of a Nollywood movie, don’t just walk past. Stop, take a picture, and let your imagination run wild. Who knows? You might just stumble upon the inspiration for the next blockbuster!

Now, excuse me while I head back to Netflix. I still have six more doors to unlock in Femi Adebayo’s Seven Doors.
