The Elegushi of Ikate-Elegushi Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, Kusenla III, celebrates his birthday today, Thursday, April 10, 2025, marking not only a personal milestone but a reflection on his 15 years of transformative leadership as one of Nigeria’s most dynamic monarchs.
In a heartfelt message shared on his social media platforms, Oba Elegushi expressed deep gratitude and introspection:
“It’s another day to celebrate not just another year of life but the journey I’ve taken to get here. Today, I reflect on the lessons learned, the challenges overcome, and the joy found in both the big moments and the small,” he wrote.
“I am grateful to God Almighty for His banner of love and protection; I am grateful to the people in my life who support and inspire me. Here’s to another year of laughter, love, and endless possibilities. It’s my birthday—join me in thanksgiving.”
Born on April 10, 1976, Oba Elegushi ascended the throne on April 27, 2010, at the age of 34, making him the youngest monarch in Lagos State at the time. He succeeded his father, Oba Yekini Adeniyi Elegushi, Kusenla II, and since then has been celebrated for combining traditional authority with youthful vision, advancing both cultural heritage and modern development.
A trained economist and public administrator, Oba Elegushi holds degrees from Lagos State University and the University of Manchester. Prior to his coronation, he served in key advisory roles under two Lagos State Governors, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Babatunde Raji Fashola, which equipped him with the experience that continues to inform his approach to grassroots leadership.
Under his reign, the Ikate-Elegushi Kingdom has witnessed tremendous progress in community development, infrastructure, and cultural reawakening. He has also become a bridge between the throne and the youth, often engaging in dialogue about education, entrepreneurship, and civic responsibility.
Speaking during a brief celebration at the palace, Oba Elegushi remarked:
“Each year reminds me of the great responsibility that comes with the crown. As custodian of the traditions of my ancestors and a witness to the evolving tides of our society, I remain committed to serving my people with wisdom, compassion, and innovation.”
The monarch’s birthday has drawn tributes from across Nigeria and the diaspora, with many praising his charisma, intellect, and unwavering dedication to his community. The Merit Newspaper joins the people of Eti-Osa and beyond in congratulating Oba Elegushi on his birthday and his inspiring reign.
