The two leading figures of the Labour Party—2023 Presidential flag bearer, Peter Obi, and the party’s only serving governor, Alex Otti of Abia State—have summoned the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party to a meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.

In a notice jointly signed by the duo, the NEC meeting will be followed by an interactive town hall engagement with major stakeholders and other organs of the party, scheduled to take place at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel.

Stakeholders expected to attend the meeting include: the Vice Presidential candidate in the 2023 election; serving and former Senators, as well as Senatorial candidates of the party in 2023; serving and former Members of the House of Representatives; Labour Party candidates from the 2023 general elections; members of the National Caretaker Committee (NTC); all former governorship candidates still in the party; representatives of the NLC/TUC Political Commission; and all members of the former National Working Committee (NWC).

The meeting is being convened in response to the Supreme Court ruling last week, which effectively terminated the tenure of the Julius Abure-led NWC.
