By Ibrahim Kegbegbe
Fuji music star, Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, popularly known as Oganla Fuji, has honoured the memory of his late mother, Alhaja Adijat Kuburat Odetola, with the unveiling of a newly built house on what would have been her birthday.
Fondly called Iyawo Anobi, the late matriarch, who passed away in April 2023, was more than a mother to Pasuma—she was his pillar of strength, inspiration, and one of the most consistent figures in his rise to stardom. She was often praised in his lyrics and live performances, as the singer never failed to acknowledge her sacrifices and prayers.
Born and raised in Mushin, Lagos, Pasuma carved a niche for himself in the Fuji music industry, eventually becoming a household name with his unique blend of rhythm and storytelling. Through it all, his mother remained a constant support system, guiding him through the struggles of the early years of his career.

In announcing the new house, Pasuma said the gesture was his way of keeping her memory alive and expressing gratitude for the role she played in his life. “My mother was everything to me. She prayed for me, encouraged me, and believed in me when no one else did. This house is not just a building—it is a symbol of my eternal love for her,” he said.

Fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry have since poured in tributes, praising Pasuma’s gesture as both touching and culturally significant, given the strong emphasis Yoruba tradition places on honouring one’s parents, even in death.
Alhaja Adijat Kuburat Odetola’s passing in 2023 left a deep void in the Fuji community, but Pasuma’s latest tribute reaffirms her enduring influence on his life and artistry.
