Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

By Ibrahim Kegbegbe

Monday October 20, 2025

ABUJA, Nigeria — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm felicitations to Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, the former Governor of Kano State and founder of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), on the occasion of his 68th birthday anniversary, celebrated on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.

In a goodwill message released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Senator Kwankwaso as an “influential politician and a patriotic Nigerian” whose leadership and dedication have left indelible marks on the country’s democratic and developmental landscape.

President Tinubu lauded Kwankwaso’s “invaluable services to the nation,” highlighting his distinguished career that has spanned several decades across multiple tiers of governance — as former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives during the aborted Third Republic, two-term Governor of Kano State, Minister of Defence, and Senator representing Kano Central.

The Merit Newspaper reports that the President further noted that Kwankwaso’s growing influence in Northern Nigeria, particularly in Kano State, is a testament to his people-oriented politics — a philosophy reminiscent of the legacies of the late Mallam Aminu Kano and former Governor Abubakar Rimi.

“Senator Kwankwaso remains a friend and ally with whom I served in the National Assembly in 1992 and later as governors in 1999,” President Tinubu was quoted as saying. “We also worked together in founding the All Progressives Congress. Although he later left to establish the New Nigeria Peoples Party, it is noteworthy that he remains within the progressive fold.”

While celebrating Kwankwaso’s achievements, President Tinubu prayed for his continued good health and wished him many more years of impactful service to Nigeria.

Senator Kwankwaso, known for his trademark red cap and the Kwankwasiyya movement, has remained one of the most influential figures in Northern politics and a key player in the country’s democratic evolution.
