Daddy Showkey

By Ibrahim Kegbegbe

LAGOS — Social media was set abuzz on Saturday morning, April 5, 2025, after a video surfaced showing veteran Nigerian galala singer, John Odafe Asiemo, popularly known as Daddy Showkey, making an urgent public call for the whereabouts of popular comic actor and Master of Ceremonies, Ayo Ajewole, fondly called Woli Agba.

In the now-viral clip, Daddy Showkey, appearing visibly disturbed, addressed the public in Nigerian Pidgin English, saying: “Make una help me find Woli Agba with immediate effect.” The short but intense video clip has left fans and followers confused and concerned, prompting widespread speculation about the nature of the issue between the two entertainers.

Daddy Showkey, a household name in Nigeria’s ghetto music scene, is known for his street credibility and advocacy for peace and social justice. Born in Ajegunle, Lagos, the musician rose to fame in the late 1990s with his signature Galala dance and ghetto-themed tracks. He hails from Olomoro Kingdom in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.

While the reason for his call remains unclear, the stern expression on his face in the video has raised eyebrows, with some social media users interpreting it as a call-out, while others suggest it might be part of a skit or publicity stunt.

As of press time, Woli Agba has not responded publicly to the video, and attempts to reach representatives from both camps were unsuccessful.

However, many Nigerians online have expressed concern over the possible fallout or misunderstanding, calling for calm and urging both entertainers to address the situation openly.

The incident comes at a time when collaborations between traditional musicians and new-generation content creators are increasingly common, often blurring the lines between entertainment, satire, and real-life tensions.

Observers say more information will be needed in the coming days to understand whether the video was a genuine concern or part of a larger performance.
