The leading governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, paid homage to tradition as he visited the palace of the Okere of Sakiland in Saki, Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State, in a ceremony marked by rich cultural display and royal reverence.

Ajadi, who arrived the ancient town amid traditional fanfare, said his visit was a deliberate effort to honour Yoruba heritage and seek the blessings and guidance of custodians of culture whose influence remains pivotal in grassroots leadership.

“Royal fathers are the soul of our heritage and the bridge between the past and the future. Their wisdom, prayers, and counsel are invaluable as we aspire to serve our people with sincerity and purpose,” he said.

He described the visit as a humbling experience, reaffirming his commitment to inclusive governance anchored on respect for tradition and service to the people.

The aspirant’s arrival at the palace was heralded by the rhythmic sounds of talking drums, while palace chiefs, adorned in flowing agbada, and a large gathering of indigenes filled the historic court to witness the symbolic engagement.

The visit, widely regarded as both significant and strategic, highlighted the enduring relevance of traditional institutions as custodians of culture and moral authority within the socio-political landscape.

Receiving the aspirant, the Okere of Sakiland, Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi, commended Ajadi for his humility and respect for tradition, noting that such gestures reflect a deep understanding of communal values.

“You are the first among the aspirants to visit my palace, and in recognition of this honour, you shall be the first to be considered in your endeavours,” the monarch prayed, offering royal prayers for Ajadi’s success in his political journey.

The royal father further stressed the importance of leadership built on integrity, service, and commitment to the welfare of the people, urging aspirants to remain focused on the collective good.

The palace visit attracted a cross-section of community leaders, traditional chiefs, and elders, who also offered prayers and words of encouragement, reinforcing the communal spirit that defines Saki and the wider Oke-Ogun region.

Observers noted that beyond its political undertone, the engagement underscored the strong link between leadership ambition and cultural legitimacy—an essential factor in gaining acceptance across many Yoruba communities.

As the echoes of the talking drums gradually faded into the evening, the significance of the visit endured, serving as a reminder that even in contemporary governance, tradition continues to command respect, authority, and timeless relevance.
