Nollywood is set for another cinematic moment as veteran actress, producer, and filmmaker Jayeola Kuti announces the release of her latest project, ‘The Anniversary’, scheduled to premiere in cinemas nationwide on May 22, 2026.

The film, which blends themes of love, unity, and cultural identity, is already generating buzz for featuring legendary Fuji musician Wasiu Alabi Pasuma in a prominent role—marking yet another crossover of a music icon into mainstream Nollywood.

Promoted across social media with the tagline, “One life, One destiny, One love, One heartbeat… One anniversary that changes everything,” the project promises a rich mix of drama, celebration, and human connection, set against a vibrant cultural backdrop. Though specific plot details remain under wraps, industry observers say the film is expected to explore relationships and defining life moments that resonate with a wide audience.

Speaking on the project, Kuti described ‘The Anniversary’ as more than just a film, but a reflection of shared human experiences. “This is a story about love, legacy, and the bonds that define us,” she said. “We wanted to create something that people can see themselves in—something that celebrates life in its fullness.”

The Merit Newspaper reports that the inclusion of Pasuma, widely respected for his decades-long influence in the African music scene, especially the Fuji music, adds both star power and cultural depth to the production. While details of his role have not been fully disclosed, sources close to the production suggest his presence will play a significant part in shaping the film’s emotional and musical tone.

Distributed by The Nile Entertainment Group, ‘The Anniversary’ is expected to enjoy a wide cinema rollout across Nigeria, with potential for international screenings as Nollywood continues to expand its global footprint.

With anticipation building ahead of its release, The Anniversary joins a growing list of Nigerian films leveraging star collaborations and strong storytelling to captivate audiences and redefine the local cinema experience.
