Prominent activist and political commentator Deji Adeyanju has predicted that the President may secure a comfortable victory in the 2027 presidential election if opposition parties fail to overcome internal divisions and personal interests.

Adeyanju made the remarks in a series of posts shared on his social media platforms on Thursday, May 28, 2026, sparking widespread reactions among Nigerians, political observers, and supporters across different political divides.

In one of the posts, Adeyanju acknowledged the political strength and advantages of the former Vice President ahead of the next general election but insisted that a fragmented opposition would ultimately hand victory to Tinubu.

“Atiku has a lot of advantages in the next election but I see Tinubu winning the election comfortably. A divided opposition cannot defeat Tinubu,” Adeyanju wrote.

The activist further expressed concern over what he described as the weakness and lack of coordination among opposition politicians in the country. According to him, many opposition figures are merely pretending to challenge the ruling establishment without demonstrating the commitment required to build a formidable political movement.

In another strongly worded post, he stated:
“My only worry is that Tinubu should not go for a third term because if he goes for a third term, he might get it. No single opposition in the country. All we have are people pretending to be doing opposition.”

Adeyanju also criticised the inability of opposition groups to sustain public protests and coordinated resistance against government policies, using the “Amupitan Must Go” protest as an example of what he considered organisational weakness within the opposition camp.

The activist did not stop there. In a third post that generated heated debates online, he declared that only divine intervention could stop Tinubu’s re-election bid if the opposition continues on its present path.

“Only God can stop Tinubu from winning the next election. Nigerian opposition politicians are useless and self-centred. They are not patriots. They only care about their personal interests and not those of the nation. Nothing can be more painful than the repetition of the 2023 division,” he wrote.

The comments immediately triggered mixed reactions on social media, with some Nigerians agreeing with Adeyanju’s assessment of the country’s opposition parties, while others accused him of exaggeration and discouraging opposition supporters.

Several commentators argued that the opposition still has enough time to rebuild and form strategic alliances before the 2027 elections. Others, however, maintained that the inability of opposition leaders to unite during the 2023 presidential election remains one of the major factors that strengthened Tinubu’s path to power.

Political analysts have repeatedly warned that unless major opposition parties and influential political figures close ranks ahead of 2027, the ruling party could once again benefit from fragmented votes and competing ambitions among opposition candidates.

The debate over coalition-building among opposition parties has intensified in recent months, especially following growing political realignments, defections, and consultations among major political actors across the country.

Adeyanju, known for his outspoken criticism of governments and political institutions, has remained one of Nigeria’s most vocal socio-political commentators, often using social media to express his views on governance, democracy, and national development.

His latest comments have once again reignited conversations about the strength of Nigeria’s opposition, the future of coalition politics, and the possibility of another fiercely contested presidential election in 2027.
