The 2026 FIFA World Cup continued to deliver compelling early-round action as Morocco held football giants Brazil to a 1–1 draw, while Scotland edged Haiti 1–0, Australia defeated Turkey 2–0, and Switzerland shared the points with Qatar in another evenly contested Group B encounter.
In one of the standout fixtures, Morocco once again underlined their growing reputation on the global stage by frustrating Brazil in a high-intensity Group C clash that ended 1–1. Morocco took the lead with disciplined attacking play and compact defending, but Brazil responded with their trademark attacking flair to restore parity. Despite sustained pressure from the South Americans in the closing stages, Morocco held firm to secure a valuable point against one of the tournament favourites.
In the same group, Scotland earned a narrow but significant 1–0 victory over Haiti. The match was tightly contested, with both sides creating limited clear-cut chances. Scotland, however, made their opportunity count and defended resolutely to preserve their lead until the final whistle. The result marked an important step forward for the Scottish side as they continue their World Cup campaign.
Elsewhere, Australia produced one of the more convincing performances of the round with a 2–0 win over Turkey in Group D. The Australians combined disciplined defending with sharp counter-attacks, taking full advantage of their chances while frustrating Turkey’s efforts to break them down. The result boosts Australia’s early standing in the group and adds momentum to their qualification hopes.

The Merit Newspaper acknowledges that in Group B, Switzerland and Qatar played out a 1–1 draw in a match that reflected the balance between both sides.
