Nigeria's 10-time African champions showcase culture, elegance and national pride in stunning traditional attire.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have once again captured the admiration of football fans, this time not with their exploits on the pitch but with a stunning Ankara-inspired traditional attire that has become the talk of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The reigning African champions arrived in Morocco dressed in coordinated green Ankara outfits that celebrated Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage while reflecting elegance, confidence and national pride. The attire immediately attracted widespread attention across social media, where fans applauded the players for proudly representing the country’s cultural identity before the start of Africa’s biggest women’s football competition.

The beautifully tailored outfits, which blend traditional African fashion with contemporary styling, have been widely praised as one of the finest ceremonial ensembles ever worn by the Super Falcons. Many Nigerians commended the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for using the team’s official appearance to promote the nation’s cultural values alongside its sporting excellence.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Azeezat Oshoala, Michelle Alozie, Esther Okoronkwo and other members of the squad were photographed wearing the matching outfits upon their arrival in Morocco. Their elegant appearance reinforced the Super Falcons’ reputation as ambassadors of Nigerian culture as well as champions of African women’s football.

Beyond football, the attire has generated conversations about the growing influence of sports in promoting African fashion, tourism and cultural diplomacy. Supporters described the outfit as a powerful expression of Nigeria’s creativity and heritage, noting that it projects a positive image of the country to the international community.

The Merit Newspaper acknowledges that across various social media platforms, fans showered the team with compliments, with many affectionately referring to the outfit as the “Big Auntie” style because of its graceful, mature and sophisticated look. Others described it as a perfect blend of simplicity, class and authenticity, saying it reflects the confidence and excellence for which the Super Falcons are known.

As Africa’s most successful women’s national football team with a record 10 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations titles, the Super Falcons enter the 2026 tournament as defending champions and favourites to retain their continental crown. Their remarkable achievements over the years have established Nigeria as the dominant force in African women’s football.

Although the competition is yet to begin, the Super Falcons have already recorded an early success by winning the admiration of supporters through their impressive display of Nigerian fashion and culture. The Ankara attire has become more than just ceremonial clothing; it is a symbol of national identity, unity and the pride that accompanies wearing the green and white colours of Nigeria.

With expectations high for another successful WAFCON campaign, Nigerians will be hoping that the Super Falcons’ stylish arrival in Morocco will be followed by outstanding performances on the pitch as they pursue a record-extending 11th African title.
