Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua produced a stunning comeback on Saturday night, surviving two first-round knockdowns before stopping Albanian heavyweight Kristian Prenga in the second round of their highly anticipated bout at the Jeddah Superdome in Saudi Arabia.
The dramatic victory marked Joshua’s successful return to the ring and reignited anticipation for his long-awaited all-British heavyweight showdown with Tyson Fury later this year.
Joshua endured a nightmare start as Prenga floored him with a powerful right uppercut less than 30 seconds into the opening round. The British boxer was sent to the canvas again before the end of the round but showed remarkable composure to beat the count on both occasions and survive until the bell.
The 36-year-old came out with renewed determination in the second round, unleashing a barrage of heavy right hands that left Prenga unable to defend himself effectively. The referee stepped in to stop the contest, handing Joshua an emphatic technical knockout victory.
Speaking after the fight, Joshua praised his opponent for pushing him to the limit, saying the difficult start tested his resolve and reminded him of the resilience required to remain at the highest level of the sport. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, also commended Joshua’s courage, describing the performance as evidence of the champion’s fighting spirit.
The victory was particularly emotional for Joshua, who was making his first appearance since being involved in a tragic car accident in Nigeria last December in which two of his close friends lost their lives. Despite the personal setback and concerns over his readiness, Joshua demonstrated both mental strength and punching power to secure the win.

The result has now cleared the path for the blockbuster clash against Tyson Fury, with both camps confirming that agreements for the long-awaited fight have already been reached, subject to both fighters winning their respective comeback bouts. Fury also emerged victorious this weekend after defeating Poland’s Mariusz Wach in Thailand.
The Merit Newspaper reports that Joshua’s latest triumph serves as a reminder that he remains one of boxing’s biggest attractions. Although questions remain over his vulnerability after being knocked down twice, his ability to recover and finish the fight spectacularly has restored confidence among fans eager to witness one of the biggest heavyweight contests in modern boxing.
