Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mide Martins has once again demonstrated her commitment to telling culturally relevant stories with the release of her latest Yoruba movie, IYA (Mother), a film that shines a spotlight on the enduring sacrifices and unconditional love of mothers.

Produced by Mide Martins and directed by veteran actor and filmmaker Afeez Abiodun, popularly known as Afeez Owo, the movie explores the realities of motherhood through a deeply emotional and relatable storyline that resonates with families across Nigeria and beyond.

Rather than relying solely on entertainment, IYA presents viewers with powerful lessons on parental sacrifice, resilience and the unbreakable bond between a mother and her children. The film reflects the daily struggles many women endure while raising their families, often putting the needs of their loved ones above their own.

The production also features an impressive cast of Yoruba movie stars, whose performances bring authenticity and emotion to the story. Their portrayal of family relationships and life’s challenges reinforces the movie’s central message that mothers remain the backbone of many homes despite numerous hardships.

With IYA, Mide Martins continues her tradition of producing films that blend entertainment with moral and social values. The movie is expected to appeal to audiences who appreciate family-oriented stories and productions that celebrate African culture and the importance of strong family ties.

As Nollywood continues to expand its global reach, productions such as IYA demonstrate the industry’s ability to tell compelling indigenous stories that connect with viewers regardless of language or background. By placing motherhood at the centre of its narrative, the film serves as both a tribute to mothers and a reminder of the invaluable role they play in shaping society.

For lovers of Yoruba cinema, IYA is more than just another movie release. It is a heartfelt celebration of motherhood, sacrifice and family values that leaves audiences with important lessons long after the closing scene.
