Lagos, March 3, 2025 – The reinstatement of Mudashiru Obasa as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly has sparked widespread reactions, with readers of The Merit Newspaper commending its Editor-in-Chief for his insightful political analysis.

Obasa, who was impeached on January 13 over allegations of misconduct, regained his position following a leadership reshuffle during Monday’s plenary session. His reinstatement comes after weeks of internal crisis that threatened the stability of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State.

In an opinion article published on March 1 by The Merit Newspaper titled “The Fall of Tinubu’s Lagos Empire? Why the APC Crisis Demands Urgent Action,” journalist Ibrahim Kegbegbe outlined the dangers of removing Obasa and the potential political consequences for APC. He argued that losing Obasa’s leadership would weaken APC’s influence in Lagos West, a crucial stronghold for the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

Kegbegbe’s analysis has now been validated by the latest political development, as the highest authorities in the APC have seemingly heeded his concerns. Many political observers believe that the decision to reinstate Obasa aligns with the arguments made in the article, which emphasized the importance of maintaining party unity and avoiding further internal divisions.

Readers and political stakeholders have since praised The Merit Newspaper for its timely and accurate assessment of the situation, reaffirming the publication’s reputation for in-depth political reporting.

With Obasa back at the helm of the Lagos State House of Assembly, APC leaders now face the task of rebuilding internal cohesion to ensure the party remains formidable ahead of the next election cycle.
