LAGOS — A tragic accident occurred earlier today, Saturday, April 26, 2025, when a lorry plunged off the Agege Pen Cinema bridge onto a commercial bus.

As of the time of filing this report, no casualties have been officially disclosed by the authorities. However, eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with multiple victims feared injured without loss of life as it seemed the bus had no passengers.

Emergency response teams, including operatives of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), and the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), swiftly arrived at the scene to commence rescue operations. LASEMA officials worked alongside LASAMBUS paramedics to administer first aid and transport the injured to nearby hospitals.

Meanwhile, personnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) have cordoned off the area to control the heavy traffic build-up resulting from the incident and to facilitate emergency activities.

Efforts are ongoing to clear the wreckage and determine the cause of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest brake failure may have contributed to the lorry’s loss of control, although investigations are still underway.

The Merit Newspaper correspondent on ground reports that several emergency vehicles, including ambulances and tow trucks, were deployed, and a video capturing the incident has been attached to this report.

Authorities are urging commuters to avoid the area for now as recovery and investigation operations continue.

More details will be provided as they emerge.
