FCT, Abuja -October 29, 2026

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ruled against Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma’s bid to contest the 2027 Imo West Senatorial District election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring former governor Rochas Okorocha the winner of the party’s primary election.

The judgment, delivered by Justice Obiora Egwuatu, reportedly held that Uzodimma did not win the APC senatorial primary conducted on May 18, 2026.

The court directed the APC to recognise Okorocha as the winner of the primary and submit his name as the party’s candidate for the 2027 senatorial election.

The ruling followed a legal challenge by Okorocha, who contested Uzodimma’s emergence as the APC candidate for Imo West Senatorial District.

The decision represents a setback for Uzodimma’s senatorial ambition, potentially reshaping the APC’s preparations for the 2027 election in Imo State.

However, the case concerns the party’s senatorial ticket and does not, in itself, affect Uzodimma’s position as the sitting governor of Imo State.

The possibility of an appeal and any subsequent court orders could determine the final outcome of the dispute ahead of the 2027 general election.
