President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday paid a visit to victims of the recent deadly attacks in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State

Makurdi, Nigeria – June 18, 2025

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday paid a visit to victims of the recent deadly attacks in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, who are currently receiving treatment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital in Makurdi.

The visit followed Tinubu’s arrival at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Makurdi around 12:58 pm, after which he was escorted to the hospital by Governor Hyacinth Alia and other top state officials.

The President described the killings as “senseless bloodletting,” condemning the attack that reportedly claimed over 100 lives. Some survivor accounts suggest the death toll could be as high as 150. Tinubu expressed deep sympathy for the victims and assured the state of the Federal Government’s commitment to ending the persistent violence.

Following the hospital visit, the President proceeded to the Government House in Makurdi, where he held a town-hall meeting with traditional rulers, security agencies, and stakeholders to discuss long-term solutions to the security challenges facing the region.
