Chief Salami and Femi Adebayo

Lagos, Nigeria – June 18, 2025
Nollywood actor and producer, Femi Adebayo, has celebrated his legendary father, Adebayo Salami—popularly known as Oga Bello—as he clocks an extraordinary 60 years in the Nigerian film industry.

In an emotional tribute shared on social media and across entertainment platforms, Femi Adebayo expressed deep admiration for his father’s lifetime commitment to the growth and global recognition of Yoruba cinema and Nollywood at large. He described his father not just as a parent, but as a mentor, icon, and national treasure whose dedication has inspired generations of filmmakers and actors.

“Daddy, your 60-year journey in this industry is not just history—it is heritage,” Femi wrote. “You laid the foundation for many of us. Your discipline, humility, and unwavering passion for storytelling have made you a beacon in Nigerian arts and culture.”

Adebayo Salami began his acting career in 1964 with the legendary drama group “Young Concert Party,” which later became the renowned Ojo Ladipo Theatre Group. Over the decades, he became a prominent figure in Yoruba-language films and later made a seamless transition to contemporary Nollywood productions. His work spans over 100 film productions and includes acting, directing, and mentoring young talent.

The celebratory messages have flooded social media, with fans, fellow actors, and dignitaries praising Oga Bello’s legacy and contribution to African cinema. Nollywood stars such as Joke Silva, Yinka Quadri, and Jide Kosoko also paid glowing tributes to the veteran actor, calling him “a pillar of the industry.”

A commemorative event to mark the milestone is being planned by the family and stakeholders in the entertainment sector, where tributes, retrospectives, and awards will be dedicated to Oga Bello’s illustrious career.

Born on May 9, 1953, Adebayo Salami’s impact transcends film. He is recognized for using his work to promote Yoruba culture, advocate social values, and mentor a generation of actors, including his son, Femi Adebayo, who now ranks among the top names in Nigerian cinema.
