Abeokuta, Nigeria — The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, Ogun State, is currently enmeshed in controversy following weighty allegations of corruption, theft, and abuse of office leveled against one of its senior staff members, Engineer Mrs. Omoniyi Moyinoluwa, the Chief Engineer of the Works and Maintenance Department.

In a petition addressed to the Board Chairman of FMC Abeokuta’s Board of Management, a group of “aggrieved staff” — citing protection under the Deployment of Anonymous Reporting System (ARS) Across All Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) circular (HCSF/PS/SDO/90/1/152 of November 3, 2021) — accused Mrs. Moyinoluwa of long-standing unethical practices and serial financial misconduct.

Track Record of Allegations

According to documents sighted by this reporter, Mrs. Moyinoluwa joined FMC Abeokuta in 2001 as a Higher Technical Officer after graduating with a Higher National Diploma (Lower Credit) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering (Power and Machine) from Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti. She later rose to become Head of the Electrical Unit and subsequently the Biomedical Unit.

However, her career progression has been overshadowed by repeated allegations of fraud.

Diesel Theft Scandal: During the administration of former Medical Director, Dr. Sotiloye Oladapo Sunday, an investigative panel reportedly found her guilty of conspiracy, sabotage, breach of trust, and stealing of hospital diesel through proxy arrangements.

Cooperative Society Fraud (2013): In another case, she was suspended for three months by the hospital board after allegedly defrauding the FMC Abeokuta Cooperative Society in a multi-million naira loan scandal. Forensic auditors reportedly uncovered irregularities in the disbursement of loans obtained from IBTC Bank, where she served as Vice President and Loan Coordinator.

Missing Generator Parts: More recently, she was investigated by two separate panels over the disappearance of a generator’s top head cylinder at the Olusegun Obasanjo Dialysis Centre. Despite being in charge of the unit, she reportedly failed to provide satisfactory explanations.

Illegal Power Supply Payments: The petition also alleges that for over two years, she received ₦250,000 monthly — amounting to more than ₦6 million — purportedly to “settle” IBEDC officials for uninterrupted power supply. This, despite FMC Abeokuta being on the Band A, 33KvA priority power supply plan with payments made directly from the hospital to IBEDC’s account. No receipts were allegedly presented to justify the extra payments.

Alleged Abuse of Influence

The petitioners further claim that Mrs. Moyinoluwa enjoyed undue protection from the immediate past Medical Director, Professor Abdus-Samiu Adewale Musa-Olomu, who allegedly made her a member of the Hospital Management Committee (HMC) and allowed her to bypass her departmental head to report directly to him. This, they say, gave her unchecked access to sensitive financial transactions.

The staff also accuse the current Acting Medical Director, Dr. Adediran Saheed Adekunle, of shielding her from disciplinary measures, a development they warn could plunge the hospital into “complete shambles.”

Questionable Promotion

Another major concern raised relates to her career advancement. The petition alleges that she sat for a promotion examination from Chief Engineer to Assistant Director without meeting the stipulated civil service requirement of possessing a first degree (B.Sc).

The Merit Newspaper reports that according to the whistleblowers, Mrs. Moyinoluwa is only currently in her 400-level at Federal University of Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ilaro Study Centre, with matriculation number FTP/EEE/24/0078307. They have urged the Board to seek verification from the university, insisting that her academic claims do not align with civil service promotion standards.

Call for Investigation

The petition concludes by calling on the FMC Abeokuta Board of Management to suspend all matters relating to her promotion and to thoroughly investigate her academic qualifications, financial dealings, and past disciplinary records.

“Her track records have constantly embarrassed the management of this Centre… her conduct can no longer justify the confidence reposed in her,” the petition reads.

The aggrieved staff insist they will continue monitoring developments under the whistleblower framework, while urging the Board Chairman to ensure justice, fairness, and accountability in handling the matter.

Official Silence

As of press time, attempts to get a response from Engineer Mrs. Moyinoluwa, the Acting Medical Director Dr. Adekunle, and the hospital management were unsuccessful.
