The United Kingdom has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening economic, diplomatic and strategic relations with Nigeria, as bilateral trade between both countries reaches £7.3 billion.
The development was highlighted at a reception hosted by the British High Commission in Abuja to celebrate the 78th birthday of His Majesty, King Charles III, and recognise the growing partnership between the United Kingdom and Nigeria.
The event, held on Thursday under the theme, “GREAT Partners for the Future,” brought together Nigerian government officials, business leaders, diplomats, representatives of civil society and other distinguished guests to celebrate the longstanding relationship between the two countries.
Speaking at the reception, British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Pete Vowles, described the relationship between both nations as a modern and forward-looking partnership built on shared interests, historical connections and opportunities for mutual prosperity.
Vowles noted that the annual King’s Birthday celebration provided an opportunity to recognise not only the British monarch but also the strong relationship between the United Kingdom and Nigeria and the people who continue to sustain it.
