President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday, September 4, 2025, departed Abuja for a 10-day working vacation in Europe.

According to a statement from the Presidency, the President will spend the period in France and the United Kingdom, combining rest with official engagements. The trip is part of his annual leave.

“The President will continue to attend to critical state matters while abroad, as the holiday is also a working vacation,” a senior aide confirmed.

The Merit Newspaper reports that during his absence, Vice President Kashim Shettima will oversee day-to-day governance in line with constitutional provisions, ensuring continuity in government activities.

This is President Tinubu’s first official vacation since assuming office in May 2023. Observers note that Nigerian presidents often take such breaks abroad, citing security and privacy considerations.

Meanwhile, reactions have trailed the announcement on social media, with some citizens wishing the President a restful break, while others urged him to focus on tackling the nation’s economic challenges.
