As the Ogun State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Barrister Olufemi John Aina is well known for his intellectual prowess and commitment to education. However, during an end-of-year party held in Ado-Odo Ota on Sunday, the renowned legal luminary revealed a lesser-known but intriguing side of himself—a unique innovation in his restroom.

As a correspondent for The Merit Newspaper, I, Ibrahim Taofeek Kegbegbe, was present to cover the event, which brought together party members, community leaders, and dignitaries to celebrate the achievements of the year. After the gathering, Barrister Aina’s thoughtful and eccentric approach to education was unveiled unexpectedly.

When I requested to use the restroom after the event, Barrister Aina personally escorted me to the facility. Upon entering, I was struck by an unusual sight—a neatly arranged three-tier shelf positioned at the entrance of the restroom.

The first tier was stocked with toilet paper; the second was a mix of toilet paper and hand sanitizers; and the third, to my amazement, contained textbooks on economics, law, and literature.

Curious about the intention behind this setup, I sought clarification from Barrister Aina. He explained that the idea was born out of his passion for education and lifelong learning.

“Students often find themselves in situations where every minute counts, especially during exam periods,” he said. “I wanted to create a space where individuals could not only meet their basic needs but also make productive use of their time. Having textbooks in the restroom might seem unconventional, but it offers an opportunity for last-minute revision or inspiration.”

The innovative concept reflects Barrister Aina’s commitment to combining practicality with intellectual enrichment. His restroom library is a testament to his belief in making knowledge accessible, even in the most unexpected places.

A Profile in Excellence

Barrister Femi Aina’s career is a blend of academic achievement, legal expertise, and community engagement. With an LLB in Business Law and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the United Kingdom, he was admitted as a Solicitor to the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 2004. After completing his studies at the Nigerian Law School, he became a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2010.

Aina’s professional experience spans across two continents. As the Managing Director of Femo Ventures (Nig) Ltd. and the Principal Partner of John & Co. (UK), he has provided legal consultancy to various firms. He also serves as a mentor to young lawyers in the UK and is authorized by the Law Society of England as a trainee supervisor.

In addition to his legal practice, Aina is a respected public analyst who regularly appears on Nigerian television stations, including Channels TV, AIT, TVC, and Galaxy TV, to contribute to discussions on national and international legal matters. He is also frequently consulted by major newspapers for his insights on pressing legal issues.

Despite his professional commitments abroad, Barrister Aina remains deeply connected to Nigeria. He attends court sessions, delivers lectures, and engages with the public on critical issues affecting the nation.

A Unique Perspective

Barrister Femi Aina’s restroom innovation might raise eyebrows, but it underscores his dedication to fostering a culture of continuous learning. “I believe education should not be confined to classrooms or libraries,” he said. “We must seize every opportunity to learn and grow, no matter where we are.”

As the end-of-year celebration filled with joy and hope, guests left inspired not only by Barrister Aina’s words of wisdom but also by his unique demonstration of how knowledge can be integrated into every aspect of life. His restroom library is more than just an unconventional setup—it is a symbol of his unwavering belief in the power of education.
