Lagos — The King Kosoko Royal Family has formally declared veteran Nigerian actor and film director, Prince Abdulrafiu Babajide Akanni Kosoko, popularly known as Jide Kosoko, as the Oloja of Lagos-elect.

The declaration was made during a gathering of family members and traditional stakeholders at the King Kosoko Palace in Ereko, Lagos Island, according to reports by PMexpress and other media outlets.

Jide Kosoko, a respected figure in Nigeria’s film industry and a direct descendant of King Kosoko of Lagos, was selected by the family in line with long-standing royal traditions governing the Oloja title.

Sources within the royal family explained that Kosoko’s declaration as Oloja-elect signifies the family’s endorsement and recognition of him as the chosen candidate for the title. However, his emergence remains subject to formal installation and capping by the Oba of Lagos, as required by custom.

Reacting to the development, members of the family described the choice as a blend of heritage, character and service, noting Kosoko’s decades-long contribution to Nigerian arts, culture and public life.

Jide Kosoko is one of Nollywood’s most celebrated veterans, with a career spanning over five decades in theatre, film and television. Beyond entertainment, he has been actively involved in cultural advocacy and community affairs.

The date for his formal installation will be announced by the appropriate traditional authorities.
