Former President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated his unwavering commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that he remains a dedicated member of the party that propelled him to two terms in office. His statement comes amid recent political realignments and speculations about his stance following the defection of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasiru El-Rufai, to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Buhari, in a statement released on Thursday, reaffirmed his position, saying, “I am an APC member, and I like to be addressed as such. I will try to popularize the party by all means.” He emphasized that he remains grateful for the support the APC provided him throughout his tenure and considers it the highest honor, adding that he has no further political aspirations beyond strengthening the party.

The former president also paid tribute to the party’s founding fathers, acknowledging the sacrifices made to establish a strong political platform committed to upholding democracy and constitutional governance. He urged party members to remain steadfast in protecting these values.

His declaration follows speculations triggered by El-Rufai’s defection, with reports suggesting that Buhari had tacitly approved the former governor’s move. However, Buhari’s latest remarks dispel such claims, making it clear that he has no intention of abandoning the APC.

Political analysts see Buhari’s reaffirmation as an attempt to consolidate party unity at a time when internal divisions and defections pose challenges to the APC’s dominance ahead of future elections. With growing concerns over the party’s direction under the current administration, his endorsement could serve as a morale booster for members seeking continuity and stability.

As Nigeria navigates its political landscape, Buhari’s stance signals his continued influence within the APC, reinforcing his role as a key figure in shaping the party’s trajectory post-presidency.
