Sheikh Habibullah Adam Al-Ilory

By Ibrahim Kegbegbe

Sheikh Habibullah Adam Al-Ilory (OON) stands out as a highly versed scholar in Islamic jurisprudence, known for his intellectual depth and commitment to guiding Muslims toward a balanced understanding of Islam. As the Mudir of Markaz, his knowledge of fiqh (Islamic law) and his ability to harmonize tradition with modern realities make him one of Nigeria’s most respected Islamic scholars.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Sheikh Habibullah’s teachings is his unwavering opposition to extremism and dogmatism. While some Islamic preachers deepen divisions through rigid interpretations, Sheikh Habibullah preaches peaceful coexistence, unity, and tolerance. His annual Ramadan tafsir (lecture) at the Markaz campus is a testament to this, drawing thousands of attendees eager to learn from his well-reasoned and inclusive approach to Islamic teachings.

The 2025 Ramadan lecture at Markaz is one that every Nigerian Muslim should witness. It is not just an academic discourse on Islam but a call for national unity. Sheikh Habibullah has consistently been the leading voice from Southwest Nigeria denouncing extremism while emphasizing the core Islamic values of love, justice, and mutual respect. At a time when Nigeria faces religious and ethnic tensions, his lectures serve as a beacon of hope, proving that Islam is a religion of peace, not division.

For anyone seeking an enlightened perspective on Islam—one that bridges faith and reason, tradition and modernity—the Markaz Ramadan lecture remains a must-attend event. Sheikh Habibullah’s voice is one that Nigeria needs now more than ever.
