His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III

By Ibrahim Kegbegbe

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has officially announced the sighting of the new moon of Ramadan, marking the beginning of the holy month.

According to the Sultan, the crescent was sighted in multiple locations across Nigeria on Friday, February 28, 2025. As a result, fasting for Ramadan 1446 AH will commence on Saturday, March 1, 2025. The announcement followed the verification of reports from various moon sighting committees across the country.

In his nationwide broadcast scheduled for 8 PM tonight, His Eminence is expected to deliver a message of unity, faith, and spiritual renewal as Muslims embark on the sacred month of fasting, prayer, and reflection.

The Merit Newspaper extends heartfelt Ramadan greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and around the world. We recognize the significance of this blessed period and encourage the Muslim faithful to embrace the virtues of charity, patience, and devotion.

As Nigerian Muslims join the global Islamic community in observing Ramadan, we wish them a month filled with peace, spiritual growth, and divine blessings. Ramadan Mubarak!
