(Lagos, 14th February 2025) – The Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC) has called for an urgent investigation into allegations that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) may have provided funding to terrorist organizations, including Boko Haram. The claim was reportedly made by U.S. Congressman Scott Perry, though official verification and responses from the relevant authorities remain pending.

In a statement signed by its Executive Chairman, Disu Kamor, MPAC expressed deep concern over the allegations, describing them as “extremely disturbing” given Boko Haram’s history of violence, which has claimed thousands of lives—many of them innocent Nigerian Muslims. The group also referenced the 2014 Chibok Girls’ kidnapping, stating that any potential foreign involvement in the crime would be “unbearable and warrants immediate attention.”

The press release further highlighted longstanding grievances among Nigerian Muslims, who have often faced accusations of sympathy toward Boko Haram. MPAC argued that if a foreign entity was indeed linked to the group’s funding, it would “expose the blatant hypocrisy” in narratives that have unfairly stigmatized Muslims in Nigeria.

MPAC has urged the Nigerian National Assembly to launch a thorough investigation into the claims, stating that Nigerians have a right to know if any external forces have been involved in financing terrorism within the country. The organization also called on the United States government to independently investigate the matter, emphasizing that American taxpayers deserve clarity on whether public funds have inadvertently supported terrorist activities.

At the time of reporting, there has been no official confirmation from USAID or the U.S. government regarding these allegations. Efforts to obtain comments from U.S. officials and Nigerian lawmakers are ongoing.

MPAC has pledged to closely monitor developments and insists that justice must be served for the victims of Boko Haram’s atrocities.
