LAGOS, NIGERIA — August 5, 2025:
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is set to inaugurate a network of roads in the Badagry area on Wednesday, as part of his administration’s commitment to ensuring infrastructural development across all parts of the state.

The Badagry network comprises three major road projects: Aradagun–Mosafejo–Ilado–Imeke Road, Samuel Ekundayo Road, and Hospital Road. These roads cut across both Badagry Local Government Area and Olorunda Local Council Development Area.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, announced the development in a statement issued on Monday in Alausa, Ikeja. He noted that Governor Sanwo-Olu has, in recent months, commissioned 39 roads and five bridges for public use.

Omotoso emphasized that the Lagos State Government considers infrastructure a strategic driver of economic growth and a catalyst for sustainable development. He said, “The administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, prioritizes road infrastructure under the ‘T’ pillar—Traffic Management and Transportation—of the THEMES+ Agenda. These projects are designed to enhance trade and commerce, promote multimodal transportation, and open up remote communities.”

To complement previously completed phases, the state has awarded a contract for the rehabilitation and upgrading of the Aradagun–Mosafejo–Ilado–Imeke Road. The existing 6.65-kilometre dual-lane carriageway includes a 300-meter bridge with a width of 9 meters. The road connects the communities of Imeke, Ajido, Iworo, and Whispering Palms to Epeme Road and provides an alternative route to the Lagos–Badagry Expressway.

Samuel Ekundayo/Toga Road, another vital arterial route, links Joseph Dosu Road from its intersection with Samuel Ekundayo Road and connects back to the Lagos–Badagry Expressway. It also integrates with the Aradagun–Mosafejo corridor, offering an alternative route from Badagry Roundabout to Limca/Ibereko.

Hospital Road (Phase 1), which begins at the Agbalata Market Junction and extends to the Lagos State University (LASU) Foundation campus, connects several communities including Idale, Akarakunmoh, Povita, Topo, and Ajido to the Lagos–Badagry Expressway via Joseph Dosu Road. Located near the Marina in Badagry, this corridor also leads to several key tourist attractions, such as the Agiya Tree Monument, Nigeria’s First Storey Building, the Heritage Museum, the Early Missionary Cemetery, the Eko Theatre, Badagry VIP Chalets, and the Badagry General Hospital.

According to Omotoso, the continued delivery of such projects demonstrates the administration’s resolve to improve the well-being of Lagosians by enhancing connectivity, easing transportation, and boosting local economies. “The Badagry Network of Roads will not only promote trade and tourism but also enhance inter-community access, foster commercial activities, and ultimately contribute to both the State and National Gross Domestic Product,” he added.
