LAGOS — Afrobeats sensation Divine Ikubor, better known as Rema, has once again shown the world that success is not just about raw talent but about discipline, service, and the right mentorship.

In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Rema shared a striking photo of himself alongside Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy, with exotic cars in the background. The caption read: “Omo mi, you gats serve before you turn Boss,” — words he attributed to Don Jazzy’s constant encouragement during his rise in the music industry.

The Merit Newspaper editorial board explained that Rema’s reflection resonates deeply with a Yoruba adage: “Eni tí kò ṣe bí ẹrú l’óyìngbó kò lè ṣe bí ajígbòrò l’ójá ọba,” meaning “He who has not served as a servant cannot lead with authority in the king’s court.”

For Rema, who rose from Benin City to global stardom under Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records, the words are not just a saying but a lived reality. His journey has been a testament to loyalty, patience, and the consistent display of creativity that has now earned him a seat among Afrobeats’ global ambassadors.

Entertainment observers note that Don Jazzy’s record label has long been a grooming ground for stars, producing icons such as Tiwa Savage, Ayra Starr, and now Rema, who continues to break barriers on the international stage.

Beyond the glitz of music, the story carries a motivational weight for Nigerian youths navigating a society marked by unemployment and limited opportunities. Rema’s acknowledgement of Don Jazzy’s mentorship underscores the enduring value of service, resilience, and humility as cornerstones of success.

The Merit Newspaper editorial board congratulated Rema for his accomplishments, noting that his story is an encouragement to every young person striving to make a mark in life.

His post was not just about luxury cars or fame — it was a reminder that before becoming a “boss,” one must first be willing to serve, learn, and grow.
