Rising Afropop star Sabrina

By Ibrahim Kegbegbe

Cameroon’s rising Afropop star Sabrina has captured global attention with her latest single, Faraway, a soulful track exploring themes of love, distance, and emotional resilience. Released on June 27, 2025, under Afrobit Productions, the song fuses vibrant African percussion with smooth modern rhythms, creating a sound that resonates across borders.

Sung in both English and Cameroon Pidgin English (Kamtok), Faraway is more than just a love song. Its bilingual lyrics reflect Sabrina’s cultural roots while offering universal messages about closeness in separation — promises to remain near, even when apart. With production by Sparrq and mixing by Michael “SynX”, the single blends authenticity with a polished international appeal.

The story took a bold turn on August 21, 2025, when Sabrina unveiled the official music video. Unlike many Afropop visuals, Faraway stands out with its futuristic, dreamlike sequences. Critics and fans alike have speculated about the use of artificial intelligence (AI), pointing to stylised shots that appear digitally enhanced. Whether created with AI tools or advanced VFX, the video’s artistry has been widely praised for amplifying the song’s emotional narrative.

Audiences have responded in kind: the official video has already surpassed two million views, while the visualizer version has crossed 5.5 million views on YouTube. For a young Cameroonian artist, these milestones underscore her growing influence in the African music scene and beyond.

Sabrina, whose full name is Wamba Kuegou Sabrina Ruth, is not just a performer but also a co-writer of the track. Her dual role highlights her commitment to storytelling, both musically and visually.

With Faraway, Sabrina has delivered more than a song — she has made a statement about the future of African entertainment. By blending traditional Afropop energy with innovative visuals, she proves that Africa’s music scene is ready to compete on a global stage, where creativity and technology meet.
