Adeleke Quits PDP Hours Before Governorship Primary as Crisis Deepens

With less than 24 hours to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has tendered his resignation from the party, escalating an already tense internal crisis.

The development comes shortly after the Osun State PDP Chairman, Mr. Sunday Bisi, announced on Monday that the party would no longer conduct the primary election scheduled for Tuesday. He attributed the suspension to the factional turmoil rocking the party, adding that Governor Adeleke was no longer willing to pursue the PDP ticket under the tense atmosphere.

However, in a dramatic twist, a letter from the PDP National Secretariat insisted that the primary election would proceed as planned on Tuesday at the Atlantic Multipurpose Hall in Osogbo, despite the deepening conflict within the party’s ranks.

Amid the confusion, a resignation letter dated November 4, 2025, and signed by the governor, surfaced on Monday evening, confirming his exit from the PDP. The letter, addressed to the chairman of Sagba Ward 2 in Ede, cited the crisis within the party as the key reason for his decision.

In the letter titled “Resignation of my membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)”, Governor Adeleke wrote:
“Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my Membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect.”

He further expressed gratitude to the party for the platform it provided throughout his political journey, stating:
“I thank the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (Represented Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the People’s Democratic Party.”

Governor Adeleke’s resignation adds a new layer of uncertainty to the already unsettled PDP structure in Osun State, leaving the party’s next steps — and the planned primary — hanging in the balance.
