Political permutations ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections intensified on Friday as South-South leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) reportedly declared unanimous support for former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as their preferred presidential candidate.
The declaration was made by former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Odigie-Oyegun, in a viral video circulating across social media platforms on February 27, 2026.
In the footage, Oyegun stated:
“We, the ADC South-South leaders, have unanimously agreed to give Rotimi Amaechi our full support for the ADC presidential ticket.”

The development comes amid heightened political realignments and strategic consultations among political stakeholders across Southern Nigeria as parties begin early positioning for the 2027 presidential race.
The Merit Newspaper reports that although the African Democratic Congress has yet to issue an official national statement confirming the endorsement, the viral declaration has already sparked reactions within political circles, particularly among opposition blocs seeking strong candidates capable of challenging the ruling establishment.
