Peju Ogunmola and her son, Shina

By Ibrahim Kegbegbe

Nollywood has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of Shina, the only son of veteran Yoruba actress, Peju Ogunmola.

According to reliable sources, the heartbreaking incident occurred on Monday, September 1, 2025, while the 56-year-old actress was reportedly on a movie location.

The Merit Newspaper reports that the young man passed away shortly after completing his one-year mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.

Shina’s passing has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, with colleagues, friends, and fans flooding social media platforms to express their condolences. Many described the tragedy as an irreparable loss, not only to Ogunmola’s family but also to the wider Yoruba theatre community.

“This is beyond painful. Our thoughts and prayers are with Peju Ogunmola in this dark moment,” one sympathiser wrote, while another added: “She has given so much to the industry, it is heartbreaking that she now faces this kind of sorrow.”

Peju Ogunmola, daughter of the late legendary dramatist Kola Ogunmola and wife of iconic actor Sunday Omobolanle, popularly known as “Papi Luwe,” has for decades remained a prominent figure in the Yoruba movie industry.
