Sanwo-Olu Marks Two Years of Lagos Blue Line, Announces 50% Fare Slash

By Ibrahim Kegbegbe

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday celebrated the second anniversary of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line with the announcement of a 50 percent reduction in fares for passengers on Thursday, September 4, 2025.

In a statement released on his official Facebook page, the governor expressed pride and gratitude for the progress the Blue Line has achieved in just two years of operation.

“Two years ago, we took a bold step with the launch of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line. Today, as I look back on how far we have come, I feel a deep sense of pride and gratitude,” Sanwo-Olu said.

According to him, the Blue Line has safely transported more than five million passengers without a single accident since its launch, underscoring the government’s commitment to safety and efficiency.

“Trains now run every ten minutes, making over 90 trips each day. Journeys that once took much longer have become faster and easier,” he stated.

Sanwo-Olu added that the system’s performance demonstrated what could be achieved with dedication and purposeful leadership. “These achievements show that when we work with dedication and purpose, we can build systems that truly serve the people,” he noted.

The governor thanked Lagosians for their trust and support, emphasizing that the rail project belongs to the people. “It is your belief in a greater Lagos that makes progress possible,” he said.

To commemorate the milestone, he announced a one-day half-price fare on the Blue Line. “If you have not yet experienced the Blue Line, I encourage you to take a ride and see what we have built together,” Sanwo-Olu urged.

Reiterating his administration’s commitment to long-term infrastructure development, the governor said the journey toward a modern and accessible Lagos was still ongoing. “Step by step, we are creating the Lagos we all desire, building a city where moving around is easier, safer, and faster. Together, we are shaping the Lagos of our future,” he said.
