Abuja — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday intervened in the lingering political crisis in Rivers State, hosting a closed-door meeting with Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The meeting, which held late into the night at Aso Rock, brought together key political actors from Rivers State as part of efforts to de-escalate tensions that have paralysed governance and deepened divisions within the state’s political structure.

Although details of the discussions were not officially disclosed, sources familiar with the meeting confirmed that President Tinubu urged all parties to prioritise peace, stability, and effective governance in Rivers State.

Fresh indications of reconciliation emerged following the engagement, with observers describing the meeting as a significant step toward resolving the prolonged rift between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, whose political disagreements have spilled into the State House of Assembly and affected legislative activities.

Reports indicated that Governor Fubara and Minister Wike were seen leaving the Presidential Villa after the meeting, further fuelling speculation of renewed dialogue between both camps.

The Merit Newspaper reports that the Rivers political crisis has drawn national attention in recent months, prompting concerns over governance, security, and the rule of law in the oil-rich state.

President Tinubu’s intervention is viewed as part of broader efforts by the Federal Government to stabilise politically volatile states and prevent further escalation of internal conflicts within the ruling political class.

As of press time, no official communiqué had been issued on the outcome of the meeting, but sources said further consultations may follow in the coming days.
