President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary election after polling 8.9 million votes in the nationwide exercise conducted across Nigeria.

The final result of the primary election showed that Tinubu defeated his challenger, Stanley Osifo, who secured 16,503 votes.

The APC presidential primary was conducted across the 8,809 wards in the country under the party’s direct primary system ahead of the 2027 general election.

The announcement of the final nationwide result confirmed Tinubu’s overwhelming dominance within the ruling party, as he recorded wide margins in several states during the exercise.

The Merit Newspaper acknowledges that party officials and stakeholders described the primary election as peaceful and successful in most parts of the country, with party members turning out to participate in the voting process.

Tinubu’s victory followed months of endorsements and public declarations of support from APC governors, party leaders, lawmakers and political stakeholders across the country.

Political observers believe the outcome of the primary election has further strengthened Tinubu’s position within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
