Port Harcourt, Rivers State
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has established a new radio station, Majority FM 89.5, in Port Harcourt as part of renewed political mobilisation efforts ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
The radio station, which was unveiled on Friday, is located within the office complex of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Rivers State, a pro-Tinubu political support group. The facility also houses a situation room and administrative offices designed to coordinate grassroots political engagement across the South-South region.
Speaking during the unveiling, Wike described the initiative as a strategic platform aimed at deepening political awareness, countering misinformation, and sustaining support for the Renewed Hope agenda of the Tinubu administration.
According to him, effective communication remains central to political mobilisation, particularly at the grassroots level, where radio continues to serve as a powerful medium for public engagement.

“This is about giving the people a voice and ensuring that the achievements and policies of this administration are properly communicated,” Wike said.
The launch of Majority FM comes amid heightened political activities in Rivers State, following growing tensions between Wike and the state’s current political leadership. Analysts view the development as a clear signal of Wike’s continued influence in the state’s political structure despite his role in the federal cabinet.
Members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors present at the event said the radio station would play a critical role in mobilising support for President Tinubu, particularly in the South-South, where political loyalties remain fluid.
Political observers note that the move underscores the early alignment and groundwork being laid by key political actors ahead of the 2027 general elections, even as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to release an official election timetable.
