Hon. Thompson Anuoluwapo

By Ibrahim Kegbegbe | Lagos | April 30, 2025

The race for the Chairmanship of Eti-Osa Local Government has officially begun to gather steam as Hon. Thompson Anuoluwapo, a prominent grassroots mobiliser and development advocate, declared his intention to contest in the forthcoming local government elections under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Anuoluwapo, accompanied by a retinue of supporters and party stalwarts, obtained his nomination form on Tuesday at the APC State Secretariat, Acme Road, Ikeja, signalling the beginning of his campaign for what he described as “a new era of purposeful leadership in Eti-Osa.”

Speaking shortly after picking up the nomination form, the aspirant stated: “I have come to serve. Eti-Osa deserves a proactive, responsive, and accountable leadership. My candidacy is built on the vision of inclusive governance where everyone, regardless of their social class, will feel the impact of government.”

Anuoluwapo is widely regarded for his youth empowerment initiatives, community health projects, and educational outreach programs. His declaration has stirred excitement among party faithful and residents who see him as a bridge between the older generation and the vibrant youth population in the area.

“My agenda is clear,” he continued. “We will prioritize education, create avenues for youth employment, strengthen our primary healthcare delivery system, and ensure that infrastructural development gets to every ward. The time to change the narrative is now.”

Anuoluwapo called on all party members and residents of Eti-Osa to support his ambition. “Let us build Eti-Osa together. Let us make it a model for development, dignity, and service delivery.”

Party stakeholders in Eti-Osa have also begun reacting positively to his declaration. Mr. Michael Collins, a senior APC figure in Ward E, described Anuoluwapo as “a committed party man who has never turned his back on the grassroots.”

“He listens, he works, and he delivers,” Collins said. “That’s what we need in Eti-Osa. Someone who understands the people and can communicate our challenges to higher authorities while implementing workable solutions locally.”

Also speaking, Mrs. Aisha Ibrahim, an active member of APC from Ward B, said: “He has always supported our women through skill acquisition and health outreach. With him as chairman, I believe women and children will have a stronger voice in local governance.”

As the APC prepares for its primaries in the coming weeks, Anuoluwapo’s declaration is expected to set the tone for a competitive but issue-driven campaign. Political observers believe his track record and popularity may give him an edge among aspirants vying for the chairmanship seat in one of Lagos’ most influential local councils.
