TikTok has been restored for U.S. users after a temporary shutdown due to national security concerns. The Merit Newspaper correspondents gathered that the popular social media app resumed operations following assurances from U.S. authorities that service providers like Apple, Google, and Oracle would not face penalties for supporting TikTok.

Reports reveal that TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, had faced a January 19 deadline to divest its U.S. operations or face a ban. This development came amid heightened scrutiny of the app over alleged data privacy and national security risks.

Although TikTok is operational for existing users, it remains unavailable for new downloads on app stores, pending further legal and political resolutions. The future of TikTok in the U.S. remains uncertain, with ongoing debates about the platform’s compliance with regulatory requirements.

The Merit Newspaper will continue to monitor this developing story as it unfolds.
