ABUJA – The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. The endorsement was announced on Thursday, May 22, 2025, during the party’s National Summit held in Abuja.

The decision, which effectively shuts the door to other potential aspirants within the party, was unanimously supported by the APC National Working Committee, the Progressive Governors Forum, and the leadership of the National Assembly.

APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, declared Tinubu as the unopposed candidate, while Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas moved and seconded the endorsement motion, respectively.

Speaking at the summit, President Tinubu expressed appreciation for the show of confidence, reiterating his administration’s commitment to economic reform, national security, and democratic governance.

“Our economic reforms are working,” Tinubu said. “Only hard decisions can make things easy in the future. We removed the fuel subsidy and liberalized the exchange rate not for applause but to secure the economic future of Nigeria.”

On national security, the President said Nigeria is safer under his leadership. This was echoed by National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, who stated that significant progress had been made in tackling insurgency, banditry, and other security threats across the country.

President Tinubu also addressed recent defections of opposition politicians to the APC. “That is the game,” he said, while assuring Nigerians that the country would not drift into a one-party state. “Citizens have the constitutional right to choose their political affiliations,” he emphasized.

The APC National Summit brought together party stakeholders, including governors, lawmakers, ministers, and other key figures, who used the platform to reaffirm their commitment to President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Observers see the early endorsement of Tinubu as a strategic move by the APC to consolidate internal unity ahead of the 2027 polls.
