Abuja, Nigeria – June 20, 2025

In a major step toward the 2027 general elections, the political coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has adopted a new party name and formally applied for registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The proposed political party, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), is expected to serve as a united platform for opposition forces aiming to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next presidential election.

The application for registration, dated June 19, 2025, was signed by ADA’s interim National Chairman, Akin Ricketts, and Secretary, Abdullahi Musa Elayo. It marks a significant milestone in the coalition’s efforts to consolidate political strength nationwide.

Sources close to the coalition confirmed that a zonal leadership structure has already been agreed upon to drive grassroots mobilisation and national outreach. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is to oversee the North East zone, while Nasir El-Rufai will head activities in the North West. Former Senate President David Mark has been assigned to the North Central region.

In the southern zones, Peter Obi will coordinate efforts in the South East, former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi will lead the South South, and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola will handle the South West.

The formation of ADA and its registration application comes ahead of the coalition’s planned formal launch, which is expected to take place before the end of June. Leaders of the movement say the party aims to offer Nigerians a credible alternative to the current administration, promising a national unity platform built on inclusivity, reform, and developmental governance.

Political analysts believe the coalition’s strategic regional representation and blend of political experience could pose a serious challenge to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

The emergence of the ADA marks one of the most ambitious political realignments in Nigeria’s recent democratic history.
