President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria following a two-day state visit to the United Kingdom, describing his trip as productive and reaffirming his commitment to national development.

The President, accompanied by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, arrived in Lagos on Thursday evening at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport ahead of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

Tinubu had travelled from Abuja on Tuesday, March 17, on the invitation of Their Majesties Charles III and Camilla, in what officials described as a historic diplomatic engagement aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Speaking shortly after his arrival, Tinubu expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the visit and his return in time to celebrate Eid with Nigerians.

“It was a very meaningful engagement for Nigeria. We discussed areas of cooperation that will benefit our country, particularly in trade, investment and security. I am also pleased to be back home to celebrate Eid with our people,” the President said.

The President also used the opportunity to urge Nigerians to embrace unity and the spirit of sacrifice which the Eid celebration represents.

“Eid reminds us of faith, sacrifice and compassion. This is a period for prayers for our country and a time to strengthen our unity regardless of differences,” he added.

Meanwhile, The Merit Newspaper reports that some Nigerians at the airport dismissed recent claims by activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore suggesting that the President intended to remain in London for medical reasons.

A supporter who spoke to journalists described the speculation as misleading.

“You can see that the President is back and looking healthy. Public figures should verify their information before making statements that may mislead Nigerians,” he said.

Presidential aides also reiterated that the visit was strictly diplomatic and conducted at the invitation of the British royal family, stressing that Tinubu’s prompt return demonstrates his dedication to national responsibilities.

The President is expected to observe the Eid-el-Fitr prayers in Lagos before returning to Abuja to resume official duties.
