Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has held a closed-door meeting with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, in Ibadan, in what is being widely interpreted as part of ongoing political consultations ahead of the 2027 election cycle.

The meeting, which took place at the Oyo State Government House, was not officially detailed by either party, but multiple reports indicate that the discussion centred on national political developments and emerging alignments within Nigeria’s opposition landscape.

Although the exact agenda remains undisclosed, the encounter comes amid increasing interactions between key opposition figures across party lines, as discussions about possible cooperation and strategic positioning begin to gain momentum.

Obi and Makinde have both been prominent voices in Nigeria’s recent political discourse, with Makinde maintaining influence within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while Obi continues to command a strong following under the Labour Party platform.

The Merit Newspaper reports that political observers suggest that such engagements may not be unconnected to early consultations aimed at building consensus or exploring common ground among opposition actors, though no formal alliance has been announced.

As of press time, neither Peter Obi nor Governor Seyi Makinde has issued an official statement clarifying the outcome of the meeting.
