Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party, on Tuesday visited Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, at his residence in Abuja.

The meeting, which took place behind closed doors on May 12, was described by sources as strategic, although details of the discussions were not disclosed to journalists at the venue. The visit drew immediate attention because of Wike’s longstanding influence within the PDP despite his current role in the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Photographs from the visit showed both political figures in what appeared to be a cordial private discussion, but neither side issued an official statement on the purpose of the meeting as of press time. The absence of public disclosure has fueled speculation over possible political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Merit Newspaper reports that Wike has remained a controversial figure in Nigeria’s political landscape due to his close working relationship with the ruling APC while retaining strong influence among PDP stakeholders. His latest meeting with the APC chairman is likely to intensify debate over shifting alliances within the country’s major political parties.

Political observers believe the encounter may be linked to ongoing consultations around national politics and internal party strategies, particularly as early alignments for the 2027 elections continue to emerge. However, no official confirmation was available on whether the discussion involved party matters or governance issues.

The visit comes at a time of increasing political manoeuvring among key actors in Abuja, where meetings between leaders across party lines are often seen as signals of broader strategic calculations in the evolving political landscape.
